AQUA MODIS SATELLITE-BASED MAPPING OF POTENTIAL CRAB (Portunus pelagicus) FISHING ZONES IN SANTONG BAY SUMBAWA

Abstract


Crab is a fishery commodity with a fairly high selling value, but fishermen in Santong Bay still have difficulty determining the crab fishing area. Therefore, information is needed regarding potential crab fishing areas. This study aimed to track the potential crab capture zones based on the Aqua Modis satellite and to analyze the relationship between SST and chlorophyll-a a to the potential crab fishing zones. The method used is a remote sensing method with digital interpretation to obtain data on the distribution of potential crab fishing zones. Field surveys were carried out by taking sample points to test the accuracy of interpretation results. Sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a were obtained by downloading Aqua Modis satellite imagery. The analysis used in this research is linear reg ression analysis, which shows the effect of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a on crab yields. The results obtained were that the distribution of SST ranged from 28.9 to 31.6⁰C with an average value of 30.22⁰C, while chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.27 to 2.34 mg/m3 with an average value of 0.83mg/m3. The six-month crab catch was 454.8 kg, the highest in December and the lowest in February. The accuracy value obtained reaches 82%, so the interpretation of satellite imagery is acceptable.
