KARAKTERISTIK PERIKANAN PANCING TONDA DI LAUT BANDA CHARACTERISTICS TROLL LINE FISHERY IN THE BANDA SEA
Abstract
Troll line fishery operated around FADs in the Banda Sea has been long developing. The study was conducted from February to December 2011 in Kendari Fishing Port aimed to obtain data and information on the catch rate, catch composition and size structure of the fish caught by trolling line in the Banda Sea. The study was conducted by recording catches of troll line fishing boats. The results showed that the average catch rate of trolling in the Banda Sea is 3,492 kg / trip (10-12 days trip). Catch composition consist of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) 67%, yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) 5 %, common dolphin fish (Coryphaena hippurus) 1%, The length of skipjack tuna and yellowfin tuna were caught troll line ranged of 20-70 cm, while the dominant caught with length was 40-50 cm. Yellowfin tuna caught by troll line in the Banda Sea is still juvenile fish stage. Catching juvenile tuna in large numbers and continuously in this stage causes tuna resources become to continue decline in the future.
