PENGANGKUTAN KRABLET KEPITING BAKAU (Scylla paramamosain) DENGAN KEPADATAN BERBEDA
Abstract
Crablet-production technique in hatchery is now become more viable, therefore the used of hatchery-reared juvenile is expected to replace the wild-caught of young crab which is widely stocked by crab farmer until recently. The objective of this experiment is to obtain information on optimum packing densities of mud crab (Scylla paramamosain) crablet during close system transportation. Twenty days old of crablet (C-20) with an average individual weight of 0.1 g originated from a wild brood stock hatched and reared in the laboratory until transported. Crablet were placed in plastic bags (6 L) with 2 L of 33 ppt seawater and oxygen, which were kept at temperature about 28oC. A peace of 20 cm x 40 cm plastic net was added to each bag as shelter. Actual land transport was performed for five ours to investigate three levels of packing densities i.e.: 50, 100, and 150 crab/L-water. The experiment was arranged in completely randomized design in triplicates. The result of the experiment showed that the survival rate of crablet at the end of transportation was significantly affected by packing density. The survival rate decreased while packing density increased. The highest survival rate of 97% was obtained from treatment A (50 ind./ L) followed by treatment B (100 ind./L) of 95% and the lowest at treatment C (150 ind./L) of 88.3%. Since A and B treatments were statistically equal but different from C, suggest that crablet of S. paramamosain could be transported at packing density of 100 ind./L for 5 hours.
